Quantitative investigation

Quantitative data was collected from each child in the sample twice a year on various literacy-related skills. Some of the measures on data collection tool were:
  • Phonemic awareness through blending and segmentation tasks
  • Print awareness through reading a book aloud to children (based on Marie Clay’s work)
  • Reading of isolated aksharas with/without maatraas and jodaksharas
  • Reading of words of graded difficulty levels
  • Reading and comprehension of passages
  • Akshara and word dictations
  • Free writing
The data helped to indentify some factors exerting a powerful influence on literacy development, which were later compiled in the report, available here:
