Saraswati Sadhan Kendra

The building of Saraswati Sadhan Kendra was constructed through the generous donations of educationist and filmmaker Vijaya Mulay, and industrialists Dr. Keki Gharda and Anuya Mhaiskar. To set up the resource centre, QUEST also received support from Aurum Foundation.
Through the activities held at this Resource Centre, the QUEST team will reach out to the students of Grade 5 to 7, as well as teachers, parents and other villagers in and around Sonale.
Main Programmes
1) Math Remedial Programme:
This programme is for the students of Grade 5 to 7. It is found that many of these students do not have a sound base in mathematics that is taught in the primary level. When they go to the high school level, they find it difficult to cope with higher level math. The QUEST team has conducted a test for the students of the Sonale High School to identify their weak areas. The Math Remedial Programme will be carried out for 10 weeks, in which these students will attend a one-hour session on every school day. They will be divided into groups and inputs will be given on specific topics and their weak areas.
2) Film Club:
On every first and third Saturday of the month, QUEST will host a film screening at the Resource Centre. A number of different films have been collected for this purpose – from regular mainstream entertainment films to thought-provoking films to award-winning international films. This club is open for all age groups.
3) Science Toys:
To turn science education into a fun activity, there will be classes for making science toys, which will be open for students of Grade 5 to 7. Toys will be made from waste materials. The classes will be held on Fridays, for 12 weeks. Children will learn to make about 20 toys. We are sure that the children will enjoy this activity very much! The fees for this 12-week activity is Rs. 50/-
4) Library:
Saraswati Sadhan Kendra is full of books! There are books on education, encyclopedia, fiction and non-fiction books, mainly for adults. The local teachers, parents and other villagers can visit the centre on Sundays and read the books sitting in the library. This service will be free of cost.
The QUEST team is confident that these activities will bring the local people to the Resource Centre in huge numbers, and it will become a vibrant space for thoughtful engagement!
