Maths Remedial Program

 

It’s a common experience for the teachers in upper primary that children find it difficult to grasp the mathematical concepts because of weak foundation. Teachers normally do not work on the basic concepts from grade 1 to 4 at upper primary level (Grade 5 to 7)  as the diagnostic remedial exercise is time consuming and fairly specialized job. As a result the foundation of arithmetic remains weak forever.

 

To address this problem, a Remedial Course in Basic Arithmetic has been designed by an expert, Mr. Arun Mavalankar from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. This course is for the students of Grade 5 to 7. It consists of pre designed lesson plans along with practice sheets. Diagnostic tests to determine the level of the students have also been designed.

 

At present is being implemented in 2 places in Nandurbar, the Jeevan Vidya Trust’s Girls Hostel and Janseva Trust’s boys hostel in Nandurbar. Similarly, in Dhadgaon 3 batches are being conducted in 2 schools from Dhadgaon. The QUEST team is in the process of trying out the same programme in Wada Taluka.
